From the moment I arrived in Albany to begin my PhD in 2005, I have been embedded in projects focusing on action research. I completed my PhD in 2021, and my work within agencies has allowed me to help practitioners make data-driven decisions to improve the lives of clients and to tell their stories in a way that was not previously possible.
While much of my research takes place within agencies focusing on juvenile justice and child welfare, the implications of my work can be applied to a wide range of children and young people, particularly as the importance of adverse childhood experiences and social determinants of health become more apparent. Along with my extensive work with client outcomes, I also help agencies assess the workforce, particularly focusing on burnout, compassion fatigue, and turnover, which is an issue in many aspects of human service organizations.
